The Calares del Mundo y de la Sima Natural Park covers an area of 19.000 hectares. The Park comprises Calar del Mundo, Calar de en Medio, Chorros del río Mundo, Cañada de los Mojones, Sierra de Cujón, and Calar de la Sima.

This area is characterized by extraordinarily well-developed karst topography, rich in shapes, as well as great botanical diversity and variety of landscapes. Its ecosystems are extremely well preserved. It is the area in Spain with the second highest number of sinkholes, boasting some 960.

The area of Cueva de los Chorros features a rich endokarst, with more than 85 explored caves. The cave, which gives its name to the area, is the first to be found in the southern half of the peninsular, and the eighth in the Iberian Peninsula as a whole.

Flora
Pine and yew are intermingled with holm oak, ash, willow, and elm. The area’s catalogue of vascular flora reaches some 1,300 taxons in the specific and subspecific ranges, and includes at least 35 species (two of which are endangered).

Fauna
The crags and outcrops here -and the water which flows through them- provide a habitat for a variety of fauna including mountain goat, deer, mouflon, griffon vulture, golden eagle, Bonelli’s eagle, wild boar, and squirrel.
